Keshi’s family lampoons Delta govt

THE family of late Coach Stephen Keshi has expressed displeasure over the unfulfilled prom­ise by the Delta State Government to erect a befitting duplex in Asaba for the ex-Eagles captain before his sudden death.

Immediate past gover­nor Emmanuel Uduaghan had in February 2013 during a reception for the victorious Super Eagles in that year’s African Cup of Nations promised to build a duplex for Keshi and complete the Asaba Stadium which he named after the late coach.

A family member who pressured anonym­ity lamented that it was a big disgrace that the government did not fulfill its pledge until the ace footballer died on June 7, 2016 at his private residence in Benin City, Edo State.

According to the source, the only prop­erty the late Keshi had in Delta State was his du­plex at his hometown of Illah, noting that the fam­ily members were excited when Uduaghan made the promise, but disil­lusioned, following the unfulfilled promise.

He noted that Keshi was not the forceful type and as a gentleman he expected the govern­ment to have kept to its promise and was never persistent in his appeal to the government but merely hoped that the government will do as it promised.

“Stephen never both­ered people in govern­ment, but expected them  to fulfill the promise through their own initia­tive instead of pestering them. It is sad that the promise was not fulfilled in his lifetime but all the same, we are expecting that it should still be ful­filled,” he said.
