Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura
Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura on Thursday signed N79.3 billion Appropriation Bill into law. It was tagged: Budget of Pragmatism.
The governor also cut down 50% of his monthly salary including that of the deputy to 30%. He urged all political appointees in the state to conform with the present economic realities with the dwindling price of oil in the global market.
The governor, however, gave an option to pensioners who are currently appointed into his government to either forfeit their pension benefits or their salaries as part of their sacrifice towards the development of the state.
He said the budget is tagged budget of pragmatism because government wants the state to cut its coat according to its cloth.
It would be recalled that the state assembly members, after the presentation of the appropriation by the governor in March, made an upward review after considering the level of work to be executed by the various ministries. This necessitated the additional figure to 79.3 billion which the governor assented to. Al-Makura said the budget would focus primarily on the necessities that would add value to the lives of the citizenry, saying the budget is not for elites but strictly for the common man.
He, therefore, stated that the implementation would focus strictly on education, health, agriculture and solid minerals development.
The governor appealed for sacrifice from the citizens one way or the other for the development of the state.
