Confident Tanzania set to clip Eagles' wings
The Tanzania’s Taifa Stars have arrived in Nigeria set to face the
Super Eagles in Saturday’s 2017
Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match. They first landed in
Abuja on Thursday aboard an Ethiopian Airline flight, and immediately flew to Uyo aboard a Dana Air jet. NFF’s Head of Protocol, Tunde Aderibigbe received the contingent in Abuja and flew together with them to Uyo, while NFF Deputy General Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme
received the delegation at the airport in Uyo. The team was in high spirits and were cheered as they drove through Uyo in their
specially branded bus courtesy of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State to the Le Meridian Hotel which will serve as their home base while in Nigeria. Their first training will be held today when they visit the stadium. The Taifa Stars are still searching for their
first win over the Super Eagles after five previous clashes. The first encounter between the two teams was at the 2nd All-Africa Games that Nigeria hosted in 1973, with Nigeria edging the tie 2-1. In 1980, at the 12th Africa Cup of Nations finals also hosted by Nigeria, the Green Eagles lashed the Taifa Stars 3-1 in the tournament’s opening match. In the qualifying race for the Spain ’82 FIFA World Cup finals, both teams drew 1-1 at the National Stadium in Lagos, before Nigeria
won 2-0 in Dar es Salaam thanks to goals by John Chidozie and Christian Nwokocha. The Eagles walked over the Taifa Stars in a
1986 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture. In the first half of this fixture, in Dares Salaam in September last year, both teams
drew 0-0. The Super Eagles on Thursday intensified their preparation at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, with a commitment to using the match as rehearsal for next month’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Series Matchday 1 encounter against Zambia in Ndola. Meanwhile, officials for Saturday’s match also arrived in Nigeria on Thursday. They are Mr. Bokinda Inyangi (Democratic Republic of
Congo), who is match commissioner, and Algerians Mehdi Abid Charef (referee), Abdelhak Etchiali (first assistant), Ahmed Tamen (second assistant) and Mustapha Ghorbal (reserve referee).

Moses, Mikel hit Eagles camp today
John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses are expected to join the rest of the Super Eagles squad today as they prepare to play Tanzania in the Africa Cup of Nations tie in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on
September 3.
Moses has been in fine form at Chelsea, while Mikel buoyed by his performance with the U-23 team at the Rio 2016 Olympics is looking to provide more leadership for the team. Moses scored his first English Premiership
goal for Chelsea last weekend. He has been raking up good performances under his new coach Antonio Conte, unlike his former manager Jose Mourinho who thrice sent the Nigerian on loan. Moses who has two goals in his last two outings for Chelsea this season, will most likely arrive Nigeria alongside team captain
John Obi Mikel who is also set to arrive today. “After a great 3 points on Saturday now it is time for international week and I’m looking forward to seeing the lads
tomorrow” Moses posted on twitter.

Huma Abedin says she's leaving Anthony Weiner after new sexting scandal
Huma Abedin, a top aide to Hillary
Clinton, announced Monday she will be separating from her husband, former congressman Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., following another sexting scandal. "After long and painful consideration
and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband. Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy," Abedin said in a statement. The announcement comes after the New York Post reported Sunday that Weiner
had been sending lewd photographs of himself to another woman while his wife was on the campaign trail with Clinton. One of the photos included his 4-year-
old son in the background. This is not the first time Weiner has been
involved in a sexting scandal, he
resigned from Congress in 2011 over a similar scandal, and his 2013 race for New York mayor was upended by another set of lewd online exchanges. Weiner's Twitter account appeared to have been deleted Monday. A documentary about the mayoral
race was released earlier this year. The film featured the couple going through the at-times painful struggle of trying to resurrect his political career — both Abedin and Weiner never watched the final product, according to Weiner's August interview with The New York Times Magazine.
In that same interview he was
also asked if he was "still engaging in the activities that got you in trouble." "I’m not going to go down the path of talking about any of that. But I will say this: There’s no doubt that the Trump
phenomenon has led a lot of people to say to me, 'Boy, compared to inviting the Russians to come hack someone’s email,
your thing seems almost quaint,'" Weiner said.

Nigeria lost N105.9bn to gas flaring in six months
Nigeria lost about $336.33 million in the first half of 2016, as oil and gas companies operating in the country flared 112.11 billion Standard Cubic Feet (SCF) of gas between January and June 2016,
according to data obtained from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.” At the Nigerian Gas Company’s average
gas price of $ per $1,000 SCF of the
commodity, the flaring of 112.11 billion SCF translates to a loss of $336.33 million or N105.9 billion at current exchange rate. Giving a month-on-month, MoM, breakdown of the volume of gas flared by oil and gas companies in the period under review, the report stated that in January 2016, 22.32 billion SCF of the commodity was flared; 20.38 billion was flared in February; 20.11 billion SCF in March, while
in April, May and June, 18.7 billion SCF, 15.8 billion SCF and 14.8 billion SCF respectively were flared. NNPC, in its Monthly Financial and Operational Report for the month of June 2016, also stated that the country earned

six-month period, the report noted that the country earned N880.31 million, N944.4 million, N2.53 billion, N3.66 billion, N2.45 billion and N3.06 billion respectively in the months January through June. Furthermore, in its analysis of

Casillas excluded from Spain squad
Spain defender Sergio Ramos was surprised to learn that the
country's record appearance maker and long-time captain Iker Casillas had been left out of the Spain squad by coach Julen
Lopetegui. The Spain players met
up with their new manager for the first time on Monday to prepare for the international friendly in Belgium on September 1 and their opening World Cup qualifier at home to Liechtenstein on September 5. Casillas was the most high-profile absence from Lopetegui's squad announcement
since succeeding Vicente del Bosque, although Pedro Rodriguez and Cesc Fabregas, who won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012, were also excluded. "We were all surprised by the absence of Casillas because he is a historic player, not just in Spanish football but on a global level," Ramos told reporters on Monday at Spain's
Las Rozas training base. "It's odd to come here and not see Casillas
but it's a decision he took with the new coach. I can't speak for him, all I can do is respect the decision they have taken." Ramos met with Lopetegui last week. "I didn't know him but I've got a good first
impression and we're going to work together to achieve the objectives we have ahead," said Ramos, vice-captain under Del
Bosque and now the team's skipper following Casillas's exclusion. "Apart from the absence of Iker, which is surprising, the group hasn't changed a lot and the captains and coach want to recover our winning spirit," Ramos added. "We have to be calm and patient with Lopetegui and let him get to work. We all have to row in the same direction." Casillas made 167 appearances for Spain and captained them to the 2010 World Cup win and successive European hampionship
titles in 2008 and 2012. The Porto goalkeeper was not picked for
any of Spain's games at Euro 2016, Del Bosque choosing David de Gea as his No 1, and the coach revealed last month that the
captain had reacted angrily to his demotion. "With his teammates he was OK, but his behaviour with the coaching staff wasn't good. His anger was directed at us," Del Bosque said. Del Bosque also revealed Casillas was the only player he did not write a letter of
gratitude to after resigning as coach following Spain's elimination by Italy in the
last 16 of Euro 2016.

Barbra Streisand Sings a Duet With Jimmy Fallon as Donald Trump on the ‘Tonight Show’: Watch!
They’re making duets great again! On
Thursday night, Barbra Streisand visited The Tonight Show to perform a historic duet with GOP candidate Donald Trump. Well, technically it was host Jimmy Fallon doing his best Trump impression. “Thank you, it’s great to see me!” Fallon declared as he took the stage with a bright orange wig and lots of face makeup. “When you see me sing, you’re going to be blown away.”“Oh, like your hair in a wind storm”
Streisand quipped.“Toupee, I mean, touche,” Fallon joked. The pair then sang the famous duet“Anything You Can Do,” changing up the lyrics a bit to match some of Trump’s most famous campaign moments. “Any wall you can build, I can build taller. I can build any wall taller than you!” Fallon declared, referencing Trump’s declaration that he wants to build a wall to keep out illegal immigrants. Once the song was over, Fallon told Streisand, “You really are a prima donna,” to which she replied, “You’re a prima Donald.”

Pep: City will help Joe Hart find a new club
Pep Guardiola has revealed that Manchester City will do everything possible to help Joe Hart find a new club. The Spaniard has frozen out the England number 1 since arriving in the Premier League earlier this summer, and handed Hart what appeared to all intents and purposes to be a farewell appearance
against Steaua Bucharest in midweek. With Claudio Bravo’s arrival, Hart is free to leave the club but after Sevilla and Everton - the two clubs with most significant reported interest - now both ruling themselves out the chase there is a question mark over whether City will be able to shift the England keeper. “We want the best for [Hart],” said Guardiola. “The club will help him find the best option.”

Mourinho happy with Manchester United squad
Jose Mourinho has all-but confirmed that Manchester United’s summer business is done. The Red Devils have splashed out on four new arrivals with Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba making the move to Old Trafford. But despite suggestions to the contrary Mourinho has revealed that he is happy with his squad as it is and won’t be
making any further additions. “I have 23 players in the squad and in principle nobody is leaving, because I don’t want anyone to leave,” Mourinho said at his weekly press conference. “No-one is coming and 23 players is more than enough. “If we have any kind of problem or any kind opportunity, I have a few young players in the academy that I will be more than happy to give an acceleration in that process and to bring them up now and again.”

Blackburn have sold one today and now
they’ve signed two. Shane Duffy departed to Brighton but Rovers have followed that up with the double capture of Tommie Hoban and Derrick Williams. Centre back Hoban joins from Watford on a season-long loan while left-back Williams, formerly of Bristol City, has penned a three-year deal.

Andreas Pereira loaned out to Granada
Jose Mourinho mentioned it in his press conference this afternoon and now it’s a confirmed deal. Manchester United forward Andreas Pereira has joined La Liga side Granada on loan for the rest of the season. “I love Pereira and I wish he could be in my squad but he isn’t, he will go to Granada to play,” Mourinho said earlier today. The Spanish side have confirmed that the player will train with the team tomorrow and will be presented to the media next week. It’s been a busy day for Granada, who also confirmed a loan deal for promising Barcelona midfielder Sergi Samper.

Dwayne Johnson 'The Rock' Tops Forbes List Of Best Paid Actors
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been named the world's highest paid actor by Forbes, raking in $64.5m (£49m). The 44-year-old former wrestler more than doubled his earnings from last year thanks to his role in the action comedy Central Intelligence, the eighth instalment
of the Fast & Furious racing franchise and the forthcoming Baywatch. Johnson was ranked number 11 last year, earning some $31m in the 12 months
from June 2014 to June 2015.
He snatched the title held for three consecutive years by Robert Downey Jr. Johnson, who stars in the HBO series Ballers, expressed his delight at his new title. He tweeted: "Want to say two things about this. I started w/$7 bucks. If I can overcome, so can you. Waffle House on me!!" Jackie Chan came in second on the list ($61m) followed by Matt Damon ($55m),
Tom Cruise ($53m) and Johnny Depp ($48m). The world's 10 highest-paid actors made a
combined $456.5m, according to Forbes, compared to the $205m earned by the top 10 actresses.
Topping the Forbes list released earlier this week for highest-paid actresses was Jennifer Lawrence, who earned $46m (£35m) - nearly $20m less than her male counterpart. The disparity is expected to reignite the
row in Hollywood about the industry's gender pay gap. Lawrence wrote a blunt essay on the issue last year after a leak of stolen emails from Sony Pictures showed she was paid less than her male co-stars in the movie

Amber Heard Calls On Johnny Depp To Double Charity Payout
Amber Heard has urged Johnny Depp to double the $7m (£5.3m) he plans to donate to charity to avoid claims his lawyers are seeking to reduce his divorce
payment. Depp agreed to pay his estranged wife the $7m sum as part of their divorce settlement, which she pledged to donate to a domestic violence charity and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star
confirmed on Thursday that he had paid the first instalments to the charities himself "in the name of Amber Heard". But Heard's legal team claims Depp's decision to pay the charities directly rather
than give the payments to Heard means he will get a charitable tax deduction and should therefore donate $14m (£10.6m) to account for that. A spokeswoman for Heard said: "Amber Heard appreciates Johnny Depp's novel
interest in supporting two of her favourite charities, the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) for domestic violence and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. This is great and unexpected news. "However, if Johnny wishes to change the settlement agreement, we must insist that
he honour the full amount by donating 14 million dollars to charity, which, after accounting for his tax deduction, is equal to his seven million-dollar payment
obligation to Amber. "We would also insist that the full amount
be paid immediately and not drawn out over many years.
"Anything less would be a transparent attempt by Johnny's counsel, Laura Wasser and Patti Glaser, to reduce their client's true payment by half under the guise of new-found concern for charities that he has never previously supported." In a statement, a spokesman for Depp said: "Following Amber Heard's announcement that her divorce settlement was to be divided equally and gifted to Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and
the American Civil Liberties Union, two exceptionally deserving and
important charities, Johnny Depp has sent the first of multiple instalments of those monies to each charity in the name of
Amber Heard, which when completed will honour the full amount of Ms Heard's pledge.
"Ms Heard's generosity in giving to these wonderful causes is deeply respected." Depp, 53, and Heard, 30, split in May and resolved their acrimonious divorce earlier this month, just a day before a high-profile court hearing was due to take place in Los Angeles. Depp vehemently denied claims he abused Heard after she said he had a "history of drug and alcohol abuse" and been "verbally and physically abusive" for the
entirety of their four-year-relationship.

Unlawful detention of el-Zakzaky
NIGERIA’S socio-legal ambience is a study in paradox. It could be oppressively frustrating for those
suspected of being on the wrong side of the law; but for public office holders, it permits them to bask in the extrajudicial use of powers to serve their primordial interests. A case that fully brings out this contradiction is that of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibrahim el-
Zakzaky. Bizarrely, he has been in
detention since December 2015. His incarceration without trial is unlawful. It is an aberration that a democratic environment like ours abhors. Although President Muhammadu Buhari promised last week to “give an appropriate response to the issue,” Aso Rock’s weird silence over the past eight months on a simple matter of the rule of law is a sign of the insufferable arrogance of public office holders in our clime. It is a throwback to the brutish days of military tyranny. The President’s lethargic response vividly explains why human rights abuses seep through the system without censure from high official quarters. This has to change.
El-Zakzaky’s heart-rending ordeal
started when members of the IMN, who were on an annual procession, blocked the convoy of Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, in Zaria, Kaduna State. In the ensuing tempest, Army personnel descended on members of the sect, killing many of them on the spot and at their headquarters in a three-day outrage. The tragedy was exacerbated by the belligerence of the IMN members.
Hundreds of the IMN members were reportedly killed; el-Zakzaky was wounded and clamped in detention and several of his wives shot. Trying to resolve the distemper, the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, empanelled a judicial commission of enquiry, headed by a judge,
Mohammed Garba, last January.
Although the IMN stayed away, the panel said in July that the Army killed 347 IMN members extrajudicially, while an Army officer also died. Life is sacrosanct. This atrocity should have moved Buhari to instant action. But, in
spite of the domestic and international outcry, the President has been silent. This falls short of
expectation from a corrective government. The blame for this horrible calamity lies with both the IMN and the government. Since the late 1970s when el-Zakzaky founded the sect, it
has imperilled the socio-economic life of Zaria residents with its aggressive brand of Islam. Armed with weapons, its members regularly block major highways during its Quds and Ashura processions. They also reportedly
openly brandish weapons. This is
imprudent. The Shiites have no
constitutional rights to block public roads. Their disregard for the law has caused confrontations with residents and security agencies that have clamped el-Zakzaky in detention several times previously. The combustible relationship between the IMN and the Nigerian Army was exacerbated during the notorious
sect’s procession in 2014 when
soldiers shot 35 sect members, and killed three of el-Zakzaky’s sons. How sad! In spite of this grave security threat, the Shiites were still being pampered
and tolerated in their direct challenge to the authority of the Nigerian state and impunity to fellow Nigerians. Perhaps, this is because the government treats religion sentimentally. Unlike other jurisdictions where the state
understands the import of separating religion and government, regrettably,
in Nigeria, the state and religion are Siamese twins. This jaundiced
handling of religion fuelled the Boko Haram Islamist terrorism, in which over 20,000 persons have been killed since 2009. But now, the dangerous slide to anarchy has reached a defining moment. Among other complaints, the
lawyers to el-Zakzaky have noted that his rights were being abridged, claiming that they had not been allowed access to him while in detention. No Nigerian citizen should be treated in such a cruel manner. It can lead to an escalation in violence by el-Zakzaky’s followers. The proper
thing is for the authorities to release el-Zakzaky or charge him to court. Section 35 (4) of the 1999 Constitution is clear: every arrested person must be tried before a court within a reasonable time, and in case he is not entitled to bail, he shall “be released either unconditionally or upon such conditions as are reasonably
necessary to ensure that he appears for trial at a later date.”
So, why is the government seemingly at a loss as to how to handle the situation? Is it because the Shiites are a minority sect in Islam as against the majority Sunnis? Two wrongs do not
make a right. The Buhari administration should stop dilly-
dallying on this matter; it is dangerous. On Sunday, Iraq executed 36 convicts indicted in the massacre of 1,700 soldiers in 2014. The executed men were arrested after Iraqi forces retook Tikrit in 2015. They were sentenced to death by an I

and tolerated in their direct challenge to the authority of the Nigerian state and impunity to fellow Nigerians.

Never react when people curse you. Reacting means you accept it. Keep quiet and spiritually it will bounce back at them. Also, don't mistake a sympathizer for a friend. Because sympathizing is free, anyone can sympathize with you, even an enemy. Use wisdom to know the difference between a sympathizer and a friend. A friend celebrates with you in good times and comforts you in bad times, but a sympathizer shows up only in bad times. But wisdom doesn't come by accident. If you dont consciously develop your mind, old age will meet you as foolish as your youth. Put your head down in prayer to God and ask Him for wisdom: When we put our head down in prayer more than we put our head down to smartphone our lives would have less drama and we would make more power available to effect the changes we desire.

Lagos cult leader, Small Jpron, arrested for five murders
Olaleye Aluko The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday paraded a self-confessed leader of the Eiye Confraternity, Ibrahim Balogun, aka Small Jpron, for allegedly killing five persons during different cult wars. It occured to iRock Media that 29-year-old Small Jpron was arrested on Saturday by detectives attached to the Alade Police Division on Apata Street in the Somolu area of the state. It was gathered that Small Jpron was arrested after some suspected cultists attacked the area on Saturday and the suspect came out with his boys for a reprisal. Our correspondent gathered that Small Jpron allegedly organised a gang which set a house ablaze in January 2016 on Oshinfolarin Street, Bariga, during which a 65-year-old woman, Adejoke Adefuye, was burnt to death.
A police source told our correspondent that Small Jpron had been declared wanted for five murder cases in the Somolu and Bariga areas in 2016. Speaking while being paraded at the
command headquarters, Ikeja, on
Wednesday, the suspect said he joined the cult to avenge the murder of his friend in 2009 by suspected Aye Confraternity members. He said, “I am an Eiye cult leader. I joined the cult in 2009. The reason for my joining was to avenge the death of
a close friend, Sunday Folorunsho, aka Small Biscuits. Small Jpron
“It was the Aye cult members who
killed him. So, the Eiye faction
approached me and said I should join them and they would help me fish out the people who killed my friend. I had a lot of boys working for me. I have killed
three persons among whom were Femi Wiper and Lekan Akon.
“I cut them with knives. I shot some other victims. They were killed in the Somolu and Bariga areas. It was in the evening that Femi Wiper was killed. We were going out for a carnival during
the Easter period on Alade Street in the Somolu area when a fight broke out. He was the one who first pointed a gun at me and my boys hacked him to death.” The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai
Owoseni, said Small Jpron had been declared wanted by the police for multiple cases of murder. He added that the suspect was an ex-convict.
He said, “Earlier this year, there were major cult clashes, where criminal elements in the Somolu and Bariga areas engaged one another in a war of supremacy culminating in the deaths of
some persons. “The gang, led by Small Jpron, also set ablaze a house in the Pedro area in which an elderly woman was burnt to
death. The suspect was the one who led the cult gang war. He is a known criminal in the Somolu area. “He has multiple cases of murder and armed robbery which he has confessed to. Through him, we will look for other members of the gang who turned Pedro and Somolu areas into theatres of war.”
