‘I regret supporting Ali Modu Sheriff,’ Governor says

Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has said that he regrets supporting the emergence of Ali Modu Sheriff as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayose had said, on February 22, after Sheriff became Chairman, that his emergence was the best thing for the PDP in the circumstance despite the chaos it unleashed in the party.
He however backtracked when Sheriff refused to vacate the office despite being removed on May 21.
“I must tell you that I have learnt my lessons from my past experience. I will not openly identify or campaign for a candidate any longer. As part of our great party in Ekiti, I ‘m assuring you that I do not have a personal candidate and God knows I have not spoken to my people about any candidate,” Fayose said over the weekend while meeting with PDP chieftain, Chief Raymond Dokpesi who is campaigning for the party’s chairmanship.
“We will allow God to choose for us this time by ensuring that all aspirants have a level-playing ground. I have learnt my lessons on Ali Modu Sheriff and I take full responsibility for the consequences. Imagine, if we have allowed him to get there, with the way he is now behaving, it would have been worse than this,” he added according to Punch.
Sheriff is currently a factional chairman of the PDP and is involved in a legal tussle to retain the position which he claims he can validly occupy till 2018.
